Senate Bill 449, Titled Fiscal Responsibility and K-20 Tech Planning., was filed on March 24th and made crossover to be considered by the House on April 15th. The summary provided within this bill states:
AN ACT TO REQUIRE ALL PUBLIC SCHOOLS, COMMUNITY COLLEGES, AND CONSTITUENT INSTITUTIONS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA TO EVALUATE CERTAIN CONSIDERATIONS ON TECHNOLOGY COSTS AND TO REQUIRE PUBLIC SCHOOLS TO REPORT ON BREAK/FIX RATE.
This bill sounds like it makes sense, but it will cause me more work. As the entire tech department in a K-12 school of 1,250, I do everything I can to be fiscally responsible. That includes Frankensteining devices together to keep them in working order as longs as possible. I try to keep track of repairs and break-fix, but to have to document all of that and report it annually adds one more thing to my overburdened plate.
